Testing & Instrumentation

Quantitative, data-driven assessment of structural condition using a full suite of in-situ testing and monitoring techniques.

Data That Drives Decisions

Structural engineering decisions must be grounded in reliable data. Struct Rehab's testing and instrumentation team applies proven in-situ test methods to generate the quantitative information needed to accurately assess condition, verify repair effectiveness, and monitor structural behaviour over time.

All tests are conducted in accordance with relevant IS, BIS, and international standards. Results are interpreted by experienced engineers and reported in a format suitable for regulatory submission, litigation support, or internal asset management.

When to Commission Testing

  • Pre-rehabilitation condition baseline establishment
  • Post-repair quality verification
  • Load rating upgrade or extension of service life
  • Dispute resolution and forensic investigation
  • Routine periodic inspection programs
  • Continuous health monitoring of critical structures

Testing & Instrumentation Services

Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV)

Assessment of concrete quality, uniformity, and the presence of internal voids or cracks by measuring the velocity of ultrasonic pulses through the section.

  • Quality and uniformity assessment of concrete
  • Internal crack and void detection
  • Dynamic modulus estimation
  • Grid-based mapping for large elements

Schmidt / Rebound Hammer

Rapid, portable test for estimating surface hardness and in-situ compressive strength of concrete, widely used for comparative surveys across large structure areas.

  • Surface hardness and estimated compressive strength
  • Grid survey of bridge decks and elements
  • Identification of soft zones and deteriorated concrete
  • Correlation with core test results

Half Cell Potential Mapping

Electrochemical test method to assess the probability of active corrosion of embedded steel reinforcement, commonly used in bridge decks and marine structures.

  • Corrosion probability assessment per ASTM C876
  • Full-deck potential contour mapping
  • Identification of active corrosion zones
  • Input for cathodic protection design

Carbonation Depth Test

Determination of the depth of carbonation front in concrete using phenolphthalein indicator on freshly broken or drilled core surfaces.

  • Carbonation depth measurement on cores or breaks
  • Residual cover assessment relative to carbonation front
  • Estimation of time to depassivation
  • Input for repair extent and coating specification

Static & Dynamic Load Testing

Full-scale structural load tests to determine actual capacity, verify analytical models, and demonstrate compliance with design loads or enhanced load ratings.

  • Static load test with calibrated vehicles
  • Dynamic load testing and impact factor measurement
  • Real-time strain and deflection monitoring
  • Residual deflection and recovery assessment

Strain Gauge Instrumentation

Installation of vibrating wire or electrical resistance strain gauges for short-term test monitoring or long-term structural health monitoring of critical elements.

  • Surface and embedded strain gauge installation
  • Vibrating wire sensor systems
  • Datalogger-based continuous monitoring
  • Alert threshold setting and remote data access
